Parts of a Performing Arts Center
STAGE
CENTERLINE
An imaginary line that runs down the middle of the performance area, from upstage to downstage, serving as a symmetrical reference point for stage measurements and placement of set pieces.
CENTER STAGE
Stage section in the center of the performance area.
DOWNSTAGE
Stage area closest to the audience.
OFFSTAGE
Any stage areas that are not visible to the audience.
ONSTAGE
The entire stage area visible to the audience.
UPSTAGE
Stage area farthest from the audience.
STAGE LEFT
Stage area to the left of the performer(s) as they face the audience.
STAGE RIGHT
Stage area to the right of the performer(s) as they face the audience.
